On Tuesday, 2 April - 18:45 GMT, FC Bayern München will host
Juventus Turin at the Allianz Arena for the Champions League
quarterfinals first leg. It's the meeting between the German record
champion and the Italian record champion and both teams are league
leaders.
Bayern Munich almost slipped up in the last round after underestimating
an Arsenal side who they had beaten 3-1 away from home. They will make
sure they are fully concentrating for every minute of this tie to avoid
a repeat of that in this quarter final tie. Juventus had an easy
victory over Celtic in the last round but will they be prepared for the
step up in class as they take on one of Europe's most exciting sides
this season? We will soon find out!
Bayern have destroyed all competition domestically this season and sit
top of the Bundesliga with a huge 20 point gap to second place
Dortmund. They are in fantastic form and recorded a 9-2 victory over
Hamburger at the weekend, now that's how you build momentum coming into a
big match! Their team has the experience of a Champions League final
last season and the disappointment of losing a penalty shootout to
Chelsea will spur them on to go one better this season and take the
title. With 10 straight Bundesliga wins they are certainly in the best
form of any team in Europe at the moment and will feel they are a match
for any side.
Juventus Turin advanced for the first time since 2005/06 to the
Champions League quarterfinal. The team of manager Antonio Conte
celebrated two wins in the Round of 16 over Celtic Glasgow (3:0 and
2:0). Altogether Juventus have won their last five Champions League
matches with a clean sheet, including a 3:0 at home against last year's
winner FC Chelsea and a 1:0 at Shakhtar Donetsk during the Group Stage.
Juve's manager Conte will miss Simone Pepe, Nicklas Bendtner and
Mauricio Isla. Martin Caceres and Mirko Vucinic, both missed the 2:1 win
at Inter Mailand, are doubtful.
Possible line-ups:
Bayern Munchen: (Manager: Jupp Heynckes): Neuer, Lahm, Boateng, Dante, Alaba, Schweinsteiger, Luiz Gustavo - Müller, Kroos, Ribery, Mandzukic.
Juventus:(Manager: Antonio Conte): Buffon, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Lichtsteiner, Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, Peluso, Quagliarella, Matri.
