Germany vs France - Competition: European Championship
Germany team secured their place in the semi-finals courtesy of a dramatic
6-5 penalty shootout victory over Italy, after the match ended 1-1.
Since the Italian goal was scored on penalty, die Mannschaft have yet to
concede a goal from open play in this tournament. The current world
champions beat France 1-0 at the quarter-final stage at the World Cup
two years ago thanks to a Hummels' header.
Joachim Low has a couple of concerns ahead of this game. Not only is key center-back Mats Hummels suspended, but midfielder Sami Khedira and the sole striker in the squad Mario Gómez have been ruled out with injuries. Bastian Schweinsteiger and Jerome Boateng are also struggling with fitness issues. As consequence, Thomas Muller will surely lead the line but the Bayern Munich forward is still seeking his first ever goal at a European Championship. Mario Gotze will start in the offensive midfield trio. Benedikt Höwedes will start their defence, although the Schalke defender trained away from the main group on Tuesday with a slight knock.

France team beat the tournament surprise package Iceland 5-2 at the weekend.
This was also the first game in the tournament that they looked
convincing. Prior to that, they narrowly beat Romania (2:1) and Albania
(2:0) and recorded a goalles draw against Switzerland in the group
stage. In the last-16 round, they were one goal down against Republic
Ireland and booed by their fans. Anyway, a braced scored by Antoine
Griezmann was enough to come from behind and win the match 2:1.
Boss Didier Deschamps will welcome midfield enforcer Kante and centre-back Adil Rami back from suspension. Samuel Umtiti and Moussa Sissoko are the most likely to be dropped from the starting eleven. Olivier Giroud is a slight doubt after skipping training with a knee injury on Tuesday. Antoine Griezmann and Dimitri Payet are sure starters upfront while Andre-Pierre Gignac and Antony Martial are in contention to replace giroud should the Arsenal striker miss out.
